H-63 , also known as Mackinac Trail,is a north-south route traveling along the former route of US-2 from just north of St. Ignace to Sault Ste. Marie.
H-63 runs via Mackinac Trail, the former route of US 2 before it was replaced by I-75 in 1962.
H-63
County-Designated Highway H-63 runs generally parallel to and within a few miles of I-75 from the northern limits of St. Ignace (near Castle Rock) to Sault Ste. Marie. This segment of highway is also a relic of former U.S. Highway 2 between those cities. As I-75 was constructed between St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie, the US 2 designation was transferred to the freeway with the former route being turned back to local control. In the early 1970s, the former route of US 2 along Mackinac Trail was designated as H-63.
H-63 is known as Mackinac Trail for its entire length.
Along the Mackinac Trail is a bridge listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Michigan. It is called the Mackinac Trail-Carp River Bridge.
