Algonac State Park contains approximately 1,500 acres and has a half-mile of St. Clair River frontage. Home to rare habitats, the lake plain prairies and oak savannas provide places to view prairie plants, birds and butterflies. One of the park’s major attractions is viewing freighters of the world along the St. Clair River frontage.

  • Hunting – During the fall and winter seasons, the park is open to small and large game species.
  • Playground – These play areas offer a variety of playground equipment for children.
  • Fishing – The park’s shoreline on the St. Clair River is well known for excellent walleye fishing. The Marine City and Algonac North Channel Boating Access Sites are close to the park.
  • Picnic Area – Picnic tables and fire pits/grills
  • Picnic Shelter(s) – Call (810) 765-5605 for a reservation.
  • Shooting/Archery Range – Archery and trap shooting are available. A motor vehicle permit is required for entry.
  • Hiking – Algonac’s lakeplain prairies and lakeplain oak savannas are considered globally significant and contain 19 species on the state list of endangered, threatened, and special concern list.
  • Cross Country Ski – Trails are not groomed.
  • Winter Camping – Semi-modern winter camping with electric service only and vault toilets. The park’s sanitation station is open year-round, and water is available in winter at the Headquarters.
  • Metal Detecting Areas – Metal detecting is recognized as a legitimate recreation activity when it is conducted in ways that do not damage the natural and cultural resources in Michigan State Parks nor violate applicable state statutes. Any items found must be reviewed by park staff and may be retained for further investigation.

Take I-94 to 23 Mile Road (exit 243). Travel northeast 22 miles to the park.
