Proud Lake State Recreation Area of Oakland County, Michigan

Over 20 miles long with many loops ranging in size from 0.5 to 15 miles long.
Directions:
- To Headquarters – From I-96 exit 159 follow Wixom Rd. N. 7 miles.
- To Campground – From I-96 Exit 159 follow Wixom Road N. 6 Miles. At traffic light turn right (east) onto Glengary. Campground is approx. 1 mile on the left.

Proud Lake Recreation Area, located in Commerce Township, Michigan is state park under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The recreation area has a total area of 4,700 acres and it offers various outdoor activities including hiking among 20 miles of hiking trails, cross-country skiing, fishing in the Huron River, hunting (in limited areas), canoeing, and picnicking. A campground office is open during summer months. Admission to the Recreation Area is included the Michigan Department of Natural Resources State Park membership.
The daily admissions fee is $5, while it costs $10 for a yearly pass.
Proud Lake Recreation Area, with more than 4,700 acres, is located on the scenic Huron River in Oakland County and offers diverse and plentiful recreational opportunities. More than 20 miles of trails cover several diverse habitats. During the winter months, skiers can enjoy seeing the evergreens draped with snow. In the spring, hepatica, marsh marigold, violets and many other wildflowers abound. Guided interpretive walks and other nature activities are offered. A schedule of upcoming programs is available at the park office year-round or at the campground office during the summer months.

- Hunting – Hunting is permitted from September 15 through March 31. Rabbit, squirrel, deer and grouse are among the wildlife hunted, each having its own designated season. Hunting is allowed west of Wixom Road and north of the Huron River.
- Fishing – Great catches of rainbow and brown trout await the angler. From April 1, when a two-mile stretch of the Huron River is stocked with trout, until the last Saturday in April, catch and release rules apply. Regular fishing rules apply the rest of the year. There is fishing in the lakes for bass, pike, sunfish and crappies.
- Canoeing – Canoes and kayaks can be rented at the Proud Lake Campground and the Huron River. Canoe drop-off and pick-up services are available, for more information on rentals click here.

- Picnic Area – Picnic tables and fire pits/grills
- Picnic Shelter(s) – The two picnic shelters at Powers can be reserved for group use. If a shelter is not reserved, it is available for any patron.
- Alcohol Restrictions Apply – Alcohol is prohibited from the Huron picnic area from April 1 through September 30 without the written authorization of the park manager.
- Hiking – Two of the hiking/ski trails run parallel to the Huron River, while another loops around a marsh. The longer trail, north of the Huron River, meanders alongside forests, fields and wetlands.
- Bridle Trails – Trails may have other designated uses. An extensive network of trails offering varied terrain is available for equestrian and mountain bike riders. Trails are located west of Wixom Road.
- Mountain Biking – About 10 miles of trails are open to mountain biking. Trails in the western portion of the recreation area are shared with equestrian riders and hikers.
- Snowmobile Area – Allowed with 4″ of snow or more on the ground.
- Boating Access Site/Launch – Access for boating and fishing. – Boaters may access Proud Lake at the Bass Lake Road boat launch. Registered campers may launch boats at the campground launch.
- Concession/Store – Boat rentals are available from April to October for row boats, canoes, paddle boats and kayaks. Reservations are available with special group services.
