Fish Species: Brown Trout

Species Description: Brown trout mostly from 8-12 inches in length with an occasional fish larger than 20 inches. Sublegal fish are abundant soon after stocking in the spring. There is a little bit of natural reproduction, but the fishery primarily is sustained by annual stocking.

Noteworthy: Cass County´s 580 acre Fred Russ Forest Park is 8 miles east of the town of Dowagiac. It is a research forest with a 13 acre park boasting sheltered picnic areas, a canoe landing, playground equipment, hiking trails and fresh water. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. The width of Dowagiac Creek is variable, but generally is from 25 to 30 feet.

Fishing Regulations: Dowagiac Creek is a designated Type 1 trout stream from Goodenough Road upstream from this site to downstream at McKenzie Road. Please refer to the Inland Streams Trout and Salmon Regulations in the current Michigan Fishing Guide.

Directions to Site: Parking is available at this road crossing where Marcellus Hwy crosses Dowagiac Creek, or within the Fred Russ Forest County Park (20379 Marcellus Hwy, Decatur) on the south side of Marcellus Highway where the Dowagiac Creek may also be accessed.
