Lakelands Trail State Park is a linear trail approximately 13 miles long with a gravel surface. Lakelands is designed for hiking, bicycling, and wheelchair use on the north side and horseback riding on the south side of the trail. Motorized vehicles and hunting are prohibited.

Lakelands Trail State Park is one of four linear state parks in the Michigan State Park system that have been converted from abandoned railroad corridors. This trail currently is completed between Stockbridge and Pinckney and passes through wooded areas and rolling farmland. It is approximately 13 miles long with a gravel surface. Lakelands is designed for hiking, bicycling, and wheelchair use on the north side and horseback riding on the south side of the trail. Cross-country skiing is popular in winter. Motorized vehicles and hunting are prohibited. The DNR currently provides only emergency maintenance services and seeks governmental agencies to operate and maintain its linear park trails. Lakelands Trail State Park is a state park in Michigan that runs east-west from Stockbridge to Hamburg Township, Michigan. It is a multi-use trail converted from abandoned railroad corridors. According to the Michigan DNR website, the north side of the trail is for hiking and biking, and the south side is for horseback riding. The trail is 20 miles (32 km) long with the surface from Stockbridge to Pinckney compose of crushed limestone. 6 miles (9.7 km) are paved in Hamburg Township.

From Stockbridge to Pinckney, horses are routinely ridden on the unpaved trail surface, occasionally damaging the trail surface so that it becomes difficult to navigate by bicycle. Only the paved portion from just west of Pinckney to the east end in Hamburg Township is consistently usable by bicyclists.
